Montecristo 520 Limited Edition 2012

The Cigar 

This was an entirely new size within the Habanos portfolio and was created to commemorate the 520th anniversary of the arrival of the Habano in Europe following Christopher Columbus’s discovery of Cuba in 1492. Montecristo was a fitting brand to choose given that it was and still is the best selling premium cigar brand today.

Montecristo 80 Aniversario

The Cigar 

Not strictly a Limited Edition as the tobaccos are not aged in the same way, the cigars are not dressed with maduro wrappers and they are not adorned with the second band. Nonetheless it is a fantastic cigar and a great way to mark the 80th anniversary of the world’s most popular Havana brand. This cigar is already a collector’s item and is, unusually, presented in boxes of 20.

Montecristo Brillantes have been created by Habanos.sa in celebration of the Chinese Year of the Dragon. They are presented in stylish red lacquered boxes containing 18 cigars. Each box is numbered and only 18,888 boxes made for global distribution.

These rare cigars are sure to become collectors’ items but if enjoyed now, the cigar smoker can expect rich aromas with the spice and ‘tang’ that has made Montecristo’s medium to full bodied blend the benchmark for many aficionados.

The cigar is a unique size within the Habanos portfolio and known as ‘Venerables’ in the factories of Cuba. They measure 5” (128mm) x 53 ring gauge and are dressed with a standard Montecristo band and a specially designed red foot-band bearing a dragon emblem and the legend “Year of the Dragon”. 

This is the fifth release dedicated to celebrating the lunar New Year following the Romeo y Julieta Maravilla 8 (2019), Hoyo de Monterrey Primaveras (2020), H. Upmann Magnum 52 (2021) and the Cohiba Siglo de Oro (2022).

Montecristo Dantes Limited Edition 2016

The Cigar 

A marked difference in shape from recent Limited Editions from Montecristo and, although it still has a ring gauge of 48, it has a decidedly slender feel to it. Nonetheless, all of the peppery tang associated with the brand very much remain in place.

Montecristo Edmundo Reserva Cosecha 2018

The Montecristo Edmundo Reserva was originally intended as a 2022 release and is the nineth Reserva release, since the launch of the series in 2003 with the Cohiba Reserva Selección. It is also the second time that Montecristo has been selected to create a Reserva, following the Montecristo No.4 in 2007.

These rare cigars are presented in numbered luxury boîte nature boxes containing twenty cigars and each one is decorated with a second silver and black Reserva band. Just 5,000 numbered boxes (100,000 cigars) have been produced for the worldwide market and all the tobaccos used in their creation has been aged in bales for three years prior to rolling. In this instance, the Montecristo Edmundo Reserva has been made exclusively using tobacco from the 2018 harvest (cosecha).

The Edmundo Reserva has been blended to the classic medium to full bodied Montecristo taste that many people consider the benchmark against which all other Havanas are measured. Established in 1935, today Montecristo is the world’s most popular Habanos brand and, in the UK, the Montecristo No.4 is one of the bestselling Havana cigars.

The original Edmundo - 5 1/3” (135mm) x 52 ring gauge - was released in 2004 and has since been joined by the Petit Edmundo (2006), Double Edmundo (2013) and Wide Edmundo (2021). In 2010 the Montecristo Edición Limitada (a Cañonazo size) was named the Grand Edmundo. 

The name Edmundo is inspired by Edmundo Dantes, the eponymous hero of Alexandre Dumas’s novel, The Count of Montecristo “All Montecristo are ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally handmade and use only the finest leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone in Pinar del Rio, Cuba. The finest tobacco in the world.”

Montecristo Supremos Limited Edition 2019

Habanos Limited Editions are highly appreciated and anticipated by cigar enthusiasts every year, and even more so when this is a new vitola from one of the world’s benchmark Habano brands. 

The Montecristo Supremos is the first of the much anticipated 2019 Habanos Limited Edition to be released in the UK. It is presented in a bespoke, Montecristo yellow box of 25 cigars and shares it’s dimensions with the ever-popular Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchill, measuring 5 ¼” (130mm) and with a ring gauge of 55.

This is the 10th time that Montecristo, the world’s best selling Havana brand, has been called upon to produce a prestigious Limited Edition and no other brand has produced more.

Within the Limited Edition series, which began in 2000 and can now boast of having over 60 releases, there are just three cigars with a larger diameter than the Montecristo Supremos.

This medium to full bodied cigar provides an hour or so of the classic ‘tangy’ Montecristo taste, with the dark wrapper providing a slightly sweet top taste to the blend and the extra ageing of all the leaves ensuring a rounded, smooth smoke.

The latest release from Habanos to arrive in the UK is the Montecristo Wide Edmundo. It is the fourth cigar in the brand’s portfolio to bear the Edmundo name, following the launch of the original in 2004. However, uniquely among its stablemates, the Wide Edmundo is dressed with a second band bearing
its name. The Wide Edmundo is an entirely new vitola (size) within the Habanos portfolio called the Duke No.3. It measures an impressive 4 7/8” (125mm) x 54 ring gauge.. Perhaps unsurprisingly, that makes it the heaviest ring gauge in the Edmundo range.
