Back in late 2017, Dunhill announced they would cease producing their famous and much loved pipe tobacco range, which left many devoted fans with a heavy heart. Two years on, Peterson have boldly taken the torch and relit the fire without altering the recipes, to bring back some old friends.

Peterson De Luxe Navy Rolls are premium coins of Virginia and Perique. The Virginias are from Africa and Brazil, hand-stripped, aged perfectly and give a sweet raisin quality to harmonise with the Louisiana Perique that has a deep, fruity, figgy-plummy flavour and mild peppery spice. The tin note of this treasure chest is like sweet and fruity bread. How you decide to prepare the coins for smoking is up to you but the universal rubbing out method gives great results. The resulting ribbon is easy to load and smoke.

Peterson Early Morning Pipe is Latakia, Oriental and Virginia, blended to suit the morning hours of the day when you're sipping your first warm drink of the day. Is it coffee or tea for you? This pipe tobacco has been waking up the palates of pipe smokers around the world for well over half a century! The manufacture may have changed hands a few times over the years, the original brand owner, Dunhill may have dropped it but it's still here and going strong, with new owner Peterson. Peterson and blending partner, STG have not changed the recipe this time around, so you can experience all the same rousing flavours you used to.

The tobacco is ribbon cut, which leads to a straightforward packing of the pipe. Mostly brown and tan in colour though there is Latakia in here, it is a small proportion. You're given a gentle waking up with mildly sweet Virginia, slightly dry, woody Orientals and an undertone of smoky wood from the Latakia. Early Morning Pipe is an apt name. Breakfast smoking is a delight.

Peterson Elizabethan Mixture is ribbon cut Virginia and Perique, masterfully blended to a perfect ratio. It's easy to prepare for smoking due to the ribbon cut and gives the smoker who may not be used to Perique a good introduction. Of course there's plenty here for the seasoned Perique lover too, with the bowl changing as you progress, becoming richer and deeper, with a little more pepper to end on.

Virginias give the blend it's light hay, citrus, grassy flavour as well as some earthiness and Perique gives a tangy sensation with raisin, fig and plum. This is a classic favourite of many and a benchmark for which other Virginia/Perique tobaccos are rated against.

Peterson Flake is a straight Virginia, medium in strength which burns cool and smooth that has had an avid following through the years. A welcoming tin note of hay, a little citrus and grass, earthiness and sweetness, greets you as you open the lid. The flakes are wonderfully deep and rich in colour, especially for a Virginia and they are a pleasure to work into your pipe. Lighting is easy, as there is the right amount of moisture and the tobacco burns long and cool without biting. The smoke is naturally sweet and one of the best examples of a straight Virginia out there. It's no wonder people keep coming back to this tobacco.

Peterson's Irish Cask Pipe Tobacco is definitely a savoury smoke, though it's not without sweetness. There's a bitterness to be enjoyed here and it's of raw cocoa or unsweetened coffee. As you continue to smoke the slight bitterness becomes less defined and turns to a nutty creaminess. It's unsurprising why the tobacco is called Irish Cask as the woody flavour is predominant and reminiscent of oak barrels that mature premium sherry.

Once opened, the tin gives its pure tobacco and woody scent. There's chocolate and a meek acetic quality to its fragrance. The aromas of hay and fermentation delight the nose. The shag cut is a multitude of mid to dark browns and is easy to put into the pipe bowl. It lights well and burns throughout, giving a rich smoke.

Peterson's Irish Flake Pipe Tobacco is a dark Burley, Kentucky and Virginia blend that has no topping added so you get the full flavour of the rich tobaccos. With a deep, woody, smoky flavour it is quite a savoury smoke that satisfies the taste buds. To begin with there's a slight peppery taste but as you continue to appreciate the bowl the flavours take on a creamy quality, a mellow oak and musky grass.

Uniformly cut, the dark coloured flakes are marbled with light golden browns. They are presented like a line of soldiers in the tin and give an earthy, grassy scent. The tobacco is moist but not wet and rubs out well. It catches the flame with ease and burns slowly, evenly and thoroughly. The nicotine content of this blend is quite high, so you may want to take it slowly or use a smaller bowl.

A full bodied blend made of equal proportions air-cured, flue cured and dark fired. True to the pure, unspoilt tobacco taste. Recommended for the experienced pipe smoker. 

Peterson's Irish Mixture (Irish Whiskey) Pipe Tobacco is a delightful Burley based tobacco that is lightly flavoured with Irish whiskey. There is no overpowering of the base tobaccos and the topping allows the real flavours of the leaves through. With Virginia in the mix there's a slight sweetness but the Burleys give a stronger body of nuttiness. To begin there's a tantalising bitter smoky quality to the taste of this blend, which evolves elegantly into a smooth gentle woody whiskey flavour.

The cut of this mix is ribbon, which enables easy packing and lighting. It burns effortlessly and throughout, leaving a fine grey ash. To look into the chocolate browns of this tobacco is to invite temptation. Its aroma is of honey and whiskey, almost mead like with peaty notes. To call this tobacco an aromatic is no lie and to say it's true to the leaves is honest, there's the best of both worlds here.

Peterson's (Sweet) Killarney is a delicious cream caramel aromatic based on Black Cavendish and gold Virginia. Once lit, the flavouring of the topping is instantly apparent. Rich sweet cream caramel that tastes almost toffee like. Beneath the topping you can taste the base tobaccos that are perfectly mixed to suit the flavouring. It's a joy as a dessert smoke or a treat for a sweet tooth.

The aroma that comes out of the tin is of fine Virginia and Black Cavendish laced with a glorious sweet caramel scent. It is ribbon cut with broken flakes of Virginia mixed throughout to give a luxurious texture. Golden brown ribbon and flake with contrasting black from the Cavendish appeal to the eye. It packs into a pipe with ease and smokes well leaving a fine grey ash.

Peterson's Luxury Blend is a delicious tobacco that would appeal greatly to vanilla lovers. There's enjoyment to be had by all and that's because the flavouring is not overpowering. The smoke gives flavours of vanilla, citrus, spice and honey though this tobacco is not overly sweet. It has a refreshing quality to it. In the blend are gold and orange Virginias, Black Cavendish and Burley which are skilfully combined with perfect quantities of casing and topping.

Inside the tin, you are greeted by an array of light browns to contrasting dark browns and black. The aroma is fruity, with the vanilla and honey coming through to tickle and delight the olfactory senses. The ribbon cut is easy to work with and packs into the bowl effortlessly. It smokes well and burns thoroughly down to a light grey ash.

Peterson My Mixture 965 is medium strength and full of English flavour. Smoky, woody and a touch sweet, the blend contains choicest Latakia, spicy Oriental, Sweet citrus Virginia and some lovely sweet and nutty Brown Cavendish. Ribbon cut and so easy to pack a pipe with, it's a pleasure in itself, with the fragrance of a log burning fire alongside the sweetness, it's like Autumn any time of the year! If you like your Latakia blends, you'll love this!

This may be a sweet English mixture, or maybe it should be classified as a Scottish mixture? Either way it's not overly sweet. It has some fermented flavours as well, an acidity in the background that you may detect, which compliments the woodiness, the spice and the citrus elements of the respective Latakia, Oriental and Virginia. There's creamy nuttiness in here too. Altogether very enjoyable.

Peterson Nightcap is a rich blend designed for the evening. It's stronger than many but burns long and cool, perfect for seeing the night out with. Can be smoked at other times of course. You needn't pay too much attention to the details but they are there if you want to discover them. Tasty, deep and affluently smoky, smooth, woody Latakia at the heart of this warming blend allows the Virginias to shine brightly of grassy hay and citrus tones. The Oriental assists the Latakia, giving some further wood and a little spice and the Perique, oh wondrous Perique, gives this blend top notes of fruity plum sweetness and pepper. Then, later, off to bed... Sleep soundly.

Peterson's Old Dublin is a superb blend of Cyprian Latakia with Gold Virginia and sweet Oriental from Greece. The flavours are well balanced and each leaf can be identified by their taste and aroma. There is no forcefulness from the Latakia of this mixture and it doesn't dominate with its smokiness. There is sweet spiciness from the Oriental which leads throughout, backed up by the Virginia's sweetness and more grassy, earthy flavours. The Latakia is there providing its rich smokiness like a camp fire smouldering in the background.

Inside the tin you are met with a delightful aroma of smoky spiciness. The tobacco is golden brown to mid brown ribbon, with ribbons of black interspersed. It's an easy tobacco to work with and takes light well. It burns thoroughly leaving a fine grey ash. If you are not a fan of overpowering Latakia blends but enjoy smoky flavours then give Old Dublin a try. It would work well as an all day smoke.

Peterson's Sherlock Holmes is an elementary blend of high quality Virginias and Brazilian Burley. There are no mysteries here unless you're looking for the Oriental tobacco, as it has a slight spice to it but no Orientals. The flavour comes mainly from the Virginias, of which there are Orange, Red and Mysore Indian varieties. They give a sweet, somewhat citrus grassy flavour. The Burley comes through as nutty but doesnt overpower the Virginia. This is a well balanced tobacco which has very little casing. It smokes well without the need to relight often, if at all.

The tin aroma is mildly fruity, of apricot and citrus. You can tell this is a Virginia blend. The ribbon is cut into short lengths that are easy to pack into the bowl. The colouring is of chestnut brown with lighter golden browns and darker sepia to chocolate tones. This tobacco blend is an easy smoke that dates back to the 19th century.

A traditional English flake combined with natural bright Virginias from Africa and Brazil creates a subtle flavour of spice with a hint of sweetness.

Peterson's Special Cut is a medium sweet blend of golden, red and dark Virginias, Burley and Black Cavendish that incorporates flavourings of subtle coconut, creamy macadamias and a shot of mellow rum. If you're new to aromatic tobaccos or have had a bad experience with them, don't be afraid to give Special Cut a try as it's quite a rewarding smoke. It's a relaxing, steady flavour that reminds of Hawaii, with a hint of spice.

When you open the tin, you are greeted by a delicious aromas of sweet coconut, nuttiness, fruitiness and rum. It's not unlike a tropical fruit and nut mix and almost seems edible. There's nothing fake here, no chemical metallic smells or flavours. The colouring of the ribbon cut varies from golden browns to mid browns with flecks of deep black. It packs well into the bowl and smokes with ease.

This exceptional blend has been enhanced with flavours of rich chocolate and coffee for a creamy and well-rounded tobacco that we are sure will be one of the most popular to date.

Visually, it's a rich sea of browns with black speckles texturing the waves. The ever faithful tobacco, as reliable as the tides, gives the smoker cool, non-biting, woody, subtly spicy Orientals as the horizon.

The Virginia, mildly sweet and a smidge sour, plays the ocean. Latakia is everything animated in the scene, it bobs in and out, ebbs and flows, with its cheerful smoky character.

Peterson's Sunset Breeze is a mild sweet amaretto aromatic blend that incorporates Black Cavendish, Burley and Virginia tobaccos. You can taste the individual leaves in this blend and they work harmoniously with the casing. The Virginias and Black Cavendish give their natural sweetness to support the almond flavour. The Black Cavendish adds a mild fermented tone and the Burley's natural nuttiness embraces the amaretto. Together, it is a well rounded and perfectly balanced smoke that would make a fabulous evening starter.

The tin aroma is sweet, almond in nature and enticing. You can smell the tobacco flavours coming through, with the Virginia ever so slightly grassy and the Cavendish offering fruit. The ribbon cut is golden brown to darker shades, with black strands coiling in and out. It's an easy packer and stays lit well giving a very pleasant room note of ripe almonds.

Peterson Royal Yacht is Virginia based, with a unique flavour added that reminds a little of plum, raisin and Perique without some of the pepper quality. It's made from the best selected Virginia leaves, from lemon and bronze to richer, fuller bodied varieties. They are naturally sweet because they have been well conditioned and matured but the topping is lightly sweet too. Smoked slowly, you can appreciate this tobacco to its fullest, it burns cool, smooth, doesn't bite and delivers consistent strength. The bowl progresses slowly towards a sweeter end.

Peterson's University Flake is a relaxing enjoyable blend of Virginias and Burley with a mild flavouring of plum. It's based on select Virginia grades combined with orange, brown and mahogany Virginia and sun cured leaf from India. The leaves are pressed together for days to form a cake, which is then sliced into uniform flakes. It smokes well, reliably and steadily, giving lots of delicious smoke full of Virginia's sweet grassy hay and earthy notes and Burley's nutty tones, with a hint of plum that weaves in and out, tantalising the taste buds.

This flake is wide cut, dark brown to golden brown and is marbled in the usual flake fashion. It appears almost river like, with currents and eddies apparent on the surface. It rubs out quite well and gives a slightly nutty, fruity aroma of plum and the base tobaccos. Once you have filled your pipe using your preferred method, it takes the flame easily allowing you to enjoy at your leisure. This flake is enjoyable as an all day smoke, or for times of restful contemplation.

Por Larrañaga, means “By Larrañaga” and was first registered in Havana by Ignacio Larrañaga in 1834. It is the oldest handmade brand Havanas still being rolled in Cuba today. In 1890 the brand received further attention when Rudyard Kipling included the assertion that “There’s peace in a Larrañaga” in his famous poem “The Betrothed”.

In recent years UK devotees of the distinctive, sweet, light to medium bodied blend, have content themselves with the brand’s Petit Corona as the only size on the market. Happily there are now four cigars in the range, the Petit Corona, Montecarlos, Picadores and the new Galanes.

Galanes (‘Gallants’ in English) is 4 3⁄4”/120mm long and, with a 52 ring gauge, it is the brand’s widest cigar. It is also an exclusive size within the Habanos portfolio.

This 2014 release is only available from La Casa del Habanos and Havana Cigar Specialists. However, its light to medium blend with distinctive floral and zesty notes makes it well worth seeking out. Ideal after lunch with a cold glass of buttery Chardonnay.

A traditional blend of American Virginia tobaccos, grown under completely natural conditions by American Indians. Like all tobaccos, this high quality blend contains natural nicotine. However the use of chemical fertilisers or pesticides is not permitted during the growing and harvesting of the tobacco leaf.

This philosophy is maintained during the manufacturing process. Moisture retainers, preservatives or other chemicals are forbidden.

It had been decades since the Cuban Punch Brand  saw a new size in its regular portfolio but at the 2019 Habanos Festival, a most unexpected announcement was made: Punch was getting a Robusto.

As it turned out, the cigar more than lived up to the hype—it’s one of the finest Cuban Punches we’ve encountered in years. Each puff brings all the warm qualities of holiday baking from nutmeg and oatmeal cookies to pecans and graham cracker, but there’s a spicy hint of hot chili oil tying it all together in unexpected ways.

The Quai D’Orsay Baalbeck – Regional Edition Lebanon – is named after the ancient Baalbeck temple complex in Lebanon and is an expression of one of the most popular lines in the Habanos offer, Quai D’Orsay. The Duke-size cigar features tobacco aged for three years in boxes of 50 for the first time. The initial idea was to produce 60,000 sticks, but with demand expected to be high, the quantity was increased to 120,000 sticks or 2,400 boxes.

This 2017 release from Quai D'Orsay offers smokers a lighter alternative in a popular size, and comes dressed in a new band that is destined to become standard across the range. 

About the Brand: 

This brand owes its origin to the refined taste of the French market. Created in the 1970’s, the name is taken from a well-known street in Paris beside the River Seine.

Although the current range is small, all Quai d’Orsay sizes are made with a distinctive light tasting blend of filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone and its wrappers are mainly distinguished by their Claro (light brown) and Colorado Claro (mid brown) colours.

All sizes are ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally handmade.
